Mogador Wanderers v Follies Old Spots (05/05/2019)

Mogador Wanderers Lost by 9 wickets.  Final Scores: Follies Old Spots - 162-1. MWCC - 160 all out

A chilly but dry day greeted the Mogs for the opener of the season against Follies Farm equipped with a new electric gate and a square refurbishment. The ground looked an absolute picture and credit to the boys and new owner at Follies for some fantastic work to keep the place cricket ready.
A rollercoaster ride of ups and downs for the first game of the season. Lets focus on the positives and ridicule the negatives:
1. Young Will Riddy, facing 26-4 when he came in, put together his first 50 against a decent attack on a green May seamer. Top knock young man and more will come
2. Teas… back to their best! Roast pork sandwiches straight out of the oven accompanied by a lemon drizzle cake. Simplicity and magnificence and a side of crackling.
3. Therapy animals available for batsmen dismissed early. This should be a thing after the dogs and cats of Follies Farm came to greet the outgoing batsmen and sit in for a cuddle. We should bring one to Dumbleton in the event of runouts and first ballers.
4. The toilet was like a holistic spa getaway with a selection of air fresheners, candles, and reading material. I have had less romantic dinners for two

Noted for the bants:
1. We should probably at least touch a cricket ball before going to field. Luckily we didn’t drop the guy who per’tanged us around the ground. oh wait…
2. We should probably at least touch a cricket ball before going to bat. Luckily we all had our eye in when a seven foot something with a big jump wants to smash your stumps out the ground first up. Oh… wait again…
3. That fourth pork sandwich was a terrible idea

Lets be honest none of it mattered. The game was over quickly, well done to Follies and in particular one batsman who seems to like a bit of slow bowling (we had 5 on hand if required). Really though it was nice to be back out with your mates, all borrowing Stu Jackson’s jumpers and making stupid jokes about other words for cats being on the field and whether your uncle is a sex offender. That is all…
